Amid expectations of fierce competition in the 70 billion baht TV broadcasting industry in Thailand, GMM Grammy has teamed up with Seoul-based Bethel Global Media Contents (BGMC) to bring Korean programmes to its variety channel One HD.
Thakonkiat Veerawan, chief executive officer of GMM One TV, said yesterday that his company had partnered with BGMC to co-invest in content development. It will also import Korean shows for its high-definition digital channel.
This quarter, the company plans to air South Korean cartoon series, drama and game shows, targeting families.
BGMC is one of the fastest-growing broadcast-media companies in South Korea. It is very active in a diverse array of fields including co-production with international partners, planning, strategising, funding, post-production, and localisation of content. Apart from GMM Grammy, BGMC also partners with Thailand's Travel Channel and MCOT.
Thakonkiat said this partnership would help One HD bring its vision of becoming a top digital channel to reality. In the current first quarter of the year, One HD aims to focus on providing the right content to the right audiences such as lovers of local TV dramas, fans of South Korean series, and those who enjoy reality shows.
One HD TV has earmarked about Bt2.5 billion this year for producing soap operas, situation comedies, variety shows and news programmes.
